Our Story

John Hinde Print Sales at the Photographers Gallery

We are John Hinde Collection (Marcus Davies and Michelle Abadie– we run this John Hinde postcard archive, restore and sell the only official edition prints of the original transparencies. Our ambition and aim for the legacy of this project was to help cement John Hinde’s reputation as an important figure in the history of colour photography, not as a brand. His work is now held in the Tate Gallery’s permanent collection.

John Hinde Official Prints

In 2010 the John Hinde Collection was entrusted, by John Hinde Ltd, with scanning and digitally restoring a set of the original transparencies of the world famous John Hinde postcards. Permission was granted to produce a series of limited edition, archival prints. We are the only official restorers of the original transparencies.

These original prints, which are restored to exhibition quality, are not available anywhere except this website and The Photographers’ Gallery Print Sales in London.

A selection of prints were launched at Vintage Festival at The South Bank in London in July 2011. Since then they have been exhibited internationally.

Through information that we have gathered over the years and this ongoing archive, John Hinde Collection has become the only comprehensive John Hinde information resource.

Over the years we have worked with world-renowned publishers (Taschen); broadcasters (BBC); exhibited at world-renowned photography festivals (les Rencontres de la photographie 2019); been involved with many international exhibitions, including the first touring exhibition in China solely devoted to British photography and we had a print in the Magnum Square Print Sales, in collaboration with The Photographers’ Gallery.
